ABOUT

The Corning Area Community Concert Band is a group of area musicians of all ages, including: students, adults, professionals and amateurs.   Our fall rehearsals resumed and we’re nearing concert season.

Currently we’re prepping for our big Scholarship Concert on 11/10/24 at the Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium. Please come – it promises to be wonderful performance in a lovely venue at Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium!

Next up, after that, will be our Holiday Concerts.

Fall schedule:

  • Oct: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
  • Nov: 7 at Edison School
  • Nov 9, Sat: 9-noon dress rehearsal
  • Nov 10, Sun: Scholarship Concert:
    • Rehearsal: 1-2 pm
    • Concert: 3pm @ CMOG
  • Nov: 14, 21
  • Nov: 28  — no rehearsal; Thanksgiving!
  • Dec 6, Friday: Concert – First Presbyterian Church, Elmira 7:30-8:30 pm
  • Dec 8, 2024: CMOG Holiday Open House in the Contemporary Art & Design Gallery 2:30 – 3:30pm
  • Dec 12: Brookdale Concert 7-8 pm; Painted Post
  • Dec 19: Connect 55 Concert 7-8 pm; Painted Post

Rehearsals are: 7 – 9:00 PM. Chairs and stands are provided. PARK behind the school; enter through the band room side entrance at the back of the building.

OUR CONDUCTOR 

Tina Sochia received her Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from West Chester Chester University, PA, and Masters of Music in Wind Conducting at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, under Malcom Rowell, where she was also a graduate assistant to the Minuteman Marching Band and Concert Band. She has also studied Wind Conducting under Craig Kirchhoff, Carl St. Clair, H. Robert Reynolds, and Steven Peterson. Ms. Sochia has performed with the Crossmen and Rochester Crusaders Drum Corps. She has taught Concert Bands, Marching Bands, Jazz Bands, Pit Orchestras, and Winter color guards as a teacher in the Katonah-Lewisboro, Union-Endicott, Dundee, and Horseheads, New York School districts. Ms. Sochia is recently re red from the Horseheads School District, having taught and/or directed the marching band for twenty-two years, and conducted the Level 6 Gold with distinction Wind Ensemble, among other musical responsibilities.

Presently, Ms. Sochia continues to adjudicate Bands, Orchestras, Jazz Bands, and Woodwind solos and small ensembles as a NYSSMA adjudicator. She has presented at the NYSSMA winter conference. She also judges Winter Color guards and Music captions for Marching Bands as a member of the New York Federation of Contest Judges and US Bands.

Tina is active in the equestrian community as a competitor and volunteer and judge for National and International events. She has performed with many community orchestras and bands and continues to play and conduct with the Corning Area Community Concert Band.
